Your portfolio fails unless...

⏱️ You convince a hiring manager otherwise in the first 5sec.

Ask yourself: Do you think about your target persona when designing your portfolio? Do you remember that design managers are often busy and overwhelmed by how many portfolios they receive? They don’t have time to read—they skim. In seconds, they’re looking for:

✔ Clarity / ✔ Results / ✔ Relevance

Want to build empathy for hiring managers?

1️⃣ Get to the Point

A quick, clear intro to who you are and what you bring to the table. They don’t have time to play detective.

💡 Tip: Start with a headline or a one-liner that sums you up:

2️⃣ Show the Right Work

What companies do you target? You want your work to make them think, “This person gets the kind of problems we need to solve.”

💡 Tip: Highlight projects that match what they do. If they’re working in B2B, don’t lead with your funky e-commerce side project.

3️⃣ Prove It Worked

Show the evidence that your designs make a real difference. Numbers, outcomes, success stories—they want to see results. If the story doesn’t have a rewarding end, is it even the story worthy of reading?

💡 Tip: In the best-case scenario you have metrics like, "Reduced onboarding time by 30%" or "Boosted engagement by 15% in the first month." If metrics are out of the picture, capture Slack screenshots from your teammates celebrating breakthroughs. Or quotes from happy customers.

4️⃣ Show You’re a Team Player

Show you’re someone who works well with others and doesn’t freak out at feedback.

💡 Tip: Mention collaboration like, “The journey mapping workshop I run aligned the team making us leave full of enthusiasm for the next steps”.

5️⃣ Keep It Simple

Focus on the content, not the context. UX portfolio is not a graphics design showcase, it’s a story about your problem-solving skills. Tell your product story, leaving creativity gym for other contexts.

💡 Tip: Align the content to the center. User formula: 1 title, 3 lines of text, 1 image. Use not more than 3 text styles. Design your copy.
